Basil

Basil_SCRNSTA snowy night in Columbus, OH couldn't hold us back from the fine cuisine of Basil in the Short North. Basil is home to dishes of Thai cuisine with a unique spin on what you may expect. This low-lit restaurant is gorgeous on the interior with a vibe that feels almost from decades ago but modern infusions keep the mood light. We went to check out the happy hour here, $3.95 small plates and half priced beer from 4 to 7. The snow storm almost stopped us from making it during happy hour but we arrived in just enough time to order a few small plates that were awesome to share. Check out the video!

Anita's Take:

SO DELICIOUS!  (it may not have conveyed that way in the video probably b/c we were really freakin' hungry and grumpy...and b/c of the damn snow. And it's more delicious because of their happy hour deals (Small plates for $3.95 and 1/2 off beer Mon-Sat 4p-7p)!  The dishes taste authentic with a modern flare to it.  It's not your typical greasy, super saucy, robust plate of Asian food.  These small plates were elegant.  Filled with fresh ingredients, right amount of sauce, and bursting with good flavor.  My favorite was the PanNang Chicken  which was a mixture of chicken and vegetables in a mildly spicy coconut cream sauce.  MMmmm...my mouth waters just thinking about it.  I was actually supremely pissed one time when I forgot my left-overs.  The inside is pretty small, but it's very cute, cozy, and classy.  This place makes it to my top 10 list.  It's one of those places where everything on the menu is probably really good, so you don't have to be afraid of making a wrong choice!

Courtney's Take:

Wow, what a deal! These small plates were amazing. Not only did they look beautiful when they arrived but they packed hardy flavor! It was nice that the deals on the food were so great for Happy Hour because it allowed us to try a bunch of things, which is not something I ordinarily do. I think my favorite thing was the sweet potato fries because they were completely different from what I expected and although they were breaded they weren't at all greasy. Basil is pretty cozy with the small interior and dim lighting. I actually thought the best part of the restaurant (in terms of the physical building) was the bathroom because the women's bathroom housed a huge vanity with an incredible mirror! haha. I also really liked that we got a free cup cake from the antique shop next door. It was cool to see local businesses working together and we got to explore something else new! I

say, give this place a shot, especially at Happy Hour.
